"Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works."
- James 2:26, Bible, NLT
Today I walked with hundreds of community members along the 2 mile "Walk to End Alzheimer's" course as a way to actively show my support and advocacy for the disease.
I could have said, "Oh how awesome, I'm praying for all participating in the walk today and those impacted by the disease." and left it at that.
Would my prayer have been misplaced? I don't believe so because I know where my heart is in connection with God's listening ear.
Would my prayer have been an example of how I am to live like Christ? I don't believe so.
What good would my prayer have done to make real life impact? When I was there today I
* Met volunteers helping put on the event
* Made eye contact, shared smiles and high-fived the Alzheimer's community in which I live
* I held a yellow flower to signify my walk is representative of others not able to be there
* Held my commitment to the fundraiser I organized the week leading up to the walk
* Invested my time, energy, words, support and love
The most significant thing that I did today was put to action that words that I pray for my family.
Settling for living in a world of prayer is throwing by the wayside living to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
Continue to send prayers: just send them while in route to act.
